Enjoy the Bavarian lifestyle
Welcome to the idyllic Mittenwald in the heart of the Bavarian Alps! Mittenwald is located 930 meters above sea level and offers its visitors amid the unique landscape of the Karwendel Mountains fresh mountain air, tranquillity and a uniquely beautiful natural experience in any season.
Here you can regain your energy through activities you enjoy, regardless of whether you prefer walking, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, swimming, skiing or winter hiking.
If you seek tranquillity, the area offers long, lonely walks through beautiful mountain forest and around mountain lakes up to the powerful, over 2000 meters high peaks of the Karwendel or Wetterstein or the Zugspitze Mountain.
Many mountain huts and alpine pastures in typical Bavarian style invite to stay there for a while. Some guests take one of the horse-drawn carriages through the beautiful countryside.
Culture vultures visit Mittenwalds Music-Summer and the concerts at Elmau Castle or Richard Strauss Institute in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Mittenwald's unique Museum of Lutherie with the history of Violin Making or other museums in the area.
The Bavarian traditions are lovingly cared by us. Our spa orchestra and the folklore society invite you regularly to events.
The local theatre shows popular plays in Bavarian dialect. Church festivals such as the Patroziniumsfest – a festival for patronage -, Corpus Christi procession and open air services on Lautersee or the Karwendel are celebrated.
Every five years the Bolzano market takes place in Mittenwald, a medieval festival with theatre, food and lots of music from the past.
